To Linz by e-bike.
Car-free from the Pfenningberg to the main square — through woods and meadows, along the Danube, and home again past Pleschinger lake.
Linz is just 1.2 km away as the crow flies — but the most beautiful way there isn’t the road, it’s over the hill.
You set off straight from your pitch: up over the Pfenningberg, then the view opens and the whole city lies at your feet. Down to the Danube, along the river to the main square — and a dip in Pleschinger lake on the way back.
On an e-mountain bike it’s a relaxed morning rather than a sweaty slog. No car, no hunting for parking, no exhaust — just you, the forest and the view.
The descent to Linz
After just a few minutes the forest opens up — and suddenly Linz lies below you: the Danube, the towers, the Pöstlingberg. A long, gentle descent through meadows and farms brings you down to the river.
Linz on the Danube
On the bike you roll right into the heart of it: over the Landstraße, through the car-free old town, along the Danube banks. You explore Linz far more centrally than by car — and get further than on foot. The loveliest corners are reachable only by bike or on foot anyway. In summer there’s even sand between your toes at the Urfahr Strandgut.
Back past Pleschinger lake
The way home follows the Danube cycle path to Pleschinger lake — the perfect spot for a break. On hot days, a jump into the cool water before the final stretch begins.
The climb back to camp
Finally it’s uphill again — through the cool forest back to your pitch. This is the sportiest part of the tour, and exactly what the e-bike is made for.
Honestly: the last stretch goes uphill. With an e-MTB the roughly 200 metres of climbing are easy — without electric assist it becomes a workout. So plan for an e-bike, and the tour stays a pleasure right to the last minute.
